VIENNA, Austria – October 5, 2026 – Motorola Solutions (NYSE: MSI) today announced it has signed a contract with the Austrian Federal Ministry of Justice to equip the country’s 29 prison facilities with V500body cameras. The video technology will be used by judicial officers and correctional staff to increase transparency and safety for both inmates and officers.
“Body cameras are a decisive milestone toward a modern, secure and effective correctional system,” says Anna Sporrer, Austrian Minister of Justice. “They provide an objective record of events and help de-escalate complex situations. The new body cameras offer essential protection for our staff while upholding fundamental rights and the safety of inmates.”
In a study across 23 prisons in the UK, 79% of participants reported body cameras had a positive impact on their work, increasing their sense of safety and confidence when handling challenging situations. The cameras proved effective in de-escalating minor incidents and securing clear evidence.
Modernizing Correctional Facilities Through Integrated Technology
Tactical units in Austria are being equipped with the new V500 body cameras following testing and training. Rollout to all front-line staff is planned for completion by the end of 2026. The LTE-enabled body cameras will be delivered alongside VideoManager software that enables live-streaming to the control room and will help personnel to manage and securely store material for evidentiary purposes.
A Trusted Mission-Critical Network Foundation
“As a long-standing provider of technology to European public safety agencies, we see a clear trend across law enforcement and emergency services agencies related to the integration of video technology into daily operations,” said Martin Fuerst, MSSSI vice president, Central and Eastern Europe, Motorola Solutions. “The Austrian Ministry of Justice joins numerous European correctional authorities, including the prison services in Romania, England and Wales, with its successful implementation of a body camera program.”
The project builds upon Motorola Solutions' existing mission-critical networks foundation in Austria. Since 2004, the company has operated TETRON, the nation's nationwide TETRA digital radio network used by more than 130,000 emergency responders on a daily basis—including the Austrian correctional services.
