Enersense and Erillisverkot have signed an agreement under which Enersense will help safeguard Erillisverkot’s public safety communications by supplying and storing mobile backup generators at locations across Finland. The service aims to ensure the continued operation of critical communications infrastructure during power outages and other disruptions.

Critical telecommunications networks are a key component of society’s operational resilience. The Virve service, which supports public safety and authority communications, must remain operational even during exceptional circumstances and disruptions. Virve operates throughout Finland.

Enersense provides Erillisverkot with storage, transportation and deployment services for backup generators. In practice, this means that Erillisverkot’s mobile backup generators, assigned to Enersense’s responsibility, can be rapidly delivered when needed to locations where the power supply has been interrupted. The generators can be used, for example, when a telecommunications network base station or another network site loses its power supply. In such cases, a mobile backup generator replaces the mains power supply, enabling services to continue operating throughout the disruption.

Critical Networks Support Public Authorities’ Operations

The communications networks maintained by Erillisverkot are a key component of Finland’s security and public safety communications infrastructure. Their users include, among others, public safety and security authorities.

The importance of telecommunications network resilience has increased further in recent years. Consequently, continuous investment is being made in network maintenance, backup power systems and preparedness for disruptions.
